Sights from the solar eclipse with the Columbia Fireflies
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – A record 9,629 fans filled Spirit Communications Monday afternoon to witness the total solar eclipse pass over the Midlands, all while taking in the series finale of the Fireflies second-to-last home set.
The game was paused after top of the fourth inning came to a close as fans, coaches, players, umpires, and all in attendance put themselves in position to witness the once-in-a-lifetime event.
Once the eclipse passed, the game resumed, as the Fireflies went on to win on an Andres Gimenez walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth, beating the Rome Braves 6-5.
