State Emergency Management Division Monitoring Tropical Storm System
WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – The S.C. Emergency Management Division is closely monitoring a tropical storm system that could affect part of the state’s coastline.
“There’s still a lot of uncertainty in the forecasts,” SCEMD Director Kim Stenson said “If it looks like this storm is going to affect South Carolina we want everyone to be ready. Now would be the time to review your emergency plans just in case.”
SCEMD officials said coastal residents and visitors should be prepared to take action should the need arise. They advised keeping an eye on local media and following updates from the National Hurricane Center.
As a precaution, SCEMD has increased operational readiness to Condition Four, which is the next highest response level above normal, day-to-day activities.
The official 2017 S.C. Hurricane Guide is available at all state welcome centers along interstates, at Walgreen’s stores statewide and for download via SCEMD’s website, scemd.org.
