Give Back to Hurricane Harvey Victims Through The City of Columbia

More Than 20 Locations Collecting Donations

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)- Over 20 groups around The Midlands are working with The City of Columbia to send necessities down to Houston.

“The City is partnering with Richland County, Lexington County, USC, several business and non-profits to accept donations. Southeastern Freight Lines has agreed to take the donations directly to Houston,” said Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine.

After working closely with the Mayor of Houston, Mayor Steve Benjamin’s office created a list of essential items.

“We’re accepting nonperishable food items, clean clothing- it can be used but it needs to be clean, toiletry items, money- you can donate money to The Greater Houston Community Foundation,” said “Devine.
One location on Main Street is collecting items for a special group of people.
“The babies. I have to be honest, I heard about the Texas diaper bank and how they were getting donations from around the world. Seeing the pictures and knowing what we went through here, I just felt like we had to do something,” said Masala on Main owner Kyra Strasberg.

Though Masala on Main is mostly accepting diapers and monetary donations, the city encourages you to bring any of the listed items to the designated locations.
