Update: Former State Rep Enters Guilty Plea, Resigns
Columbia, SC (WOLO) — Friday former State Representative Jim Merill appeared in court to face State ethics and corruption charges.
The hearing was held at the Richland County Courthouse Friday morning where Merill plead guilty to misconduct under a negligence clause. Allegations against Merill were first brought to light when he was suspended back in December, accused of using his office for personal gain.
According to ABC Columbia’s Gabrielle Franklin who is in court, Merill has resigned as a State Representative and according to a plea agreement signed prior to court this morning, all additional indictments against Merill will be dismissed as long as he “cooperates with the investigation.”
