Gamecocks welcomes New Mexico to the Graveyard

COLUMBIA S.C. — Gamecocks men’s soccer (4-3-0) welcomes New Mexico (4-3-0) to Stone Stadium on Friday night at 7.p. The game will be the team’s annual Ovarian Cancer Awareness Match. Admission will be $1 for all fans wearing teal.
The Gamecocks are fresh off their biggest win of the season on Tuesday as they handed No. 13 Furman its first loss of the season, 1-0, in from o 3,049 fans at the Graveyard.
The New Mexico Lobos came into the year ranked No. 20 in the United Coaches Association Preseason Poll. They’ve played a touch schedule so far in 2017 and are 4-3 heading into Friday night. Two of their three losses came to teams ranked in the top-15. New Mexico has a balanced offensive attack with eight different players coring goals for them this season. Antoine Vial leads the team with six points on three goals. nick Taylor and Luke Lawrence have each scored twice with the Lobos. Aaron Herrera and Devin Boyce are tied for the team lead with three assists. Herrera and Same Gleadle are tried for the team lead with 13 shots. Goalkeeper Jason Beaulieu has started every match for New Mexico and allowed 7 goals and made 24 saves.
The Gamecocks has supported Ovarian Cancer Awareness all month long in September both at home and away games by wearing teal warm up shirts for their matches. The Gamecock coaching staff and support staff have also been wearing teal polo shirts. The team’s hope is to promote awareness for this cancer and encourage women to get regular check ups.

The Gamecocks hit the road again as they continue their nonconference slate to face No. 4 Wake Forest (7-1-0). Kickoff is schedule for 7 p.m. on Tuesdayk, September 26 in Winston Salem, NC.
