New Cat Ordinance in Lexington Co.

Lexington Co., S.C. (WOLO)–  Lexington County is changing the way it deals with stray cats in the county.

Beginning October 1st, community cats will be allowed to live freely throughout the county and no longer subject to restraint or confinement.

Anyone wanting to give up a cat for adoption will now be referred to Pawmetto Lifeline.

Those who want to trap free-roaming or feral cats will also be referred to the organization to make arrangements for a trap.

Once trapped the cats will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and ear-tipped before being returned to the location from which it was removed.

The county’s animal shelter will not longer accept cats and will no longer respond to complaints about cats.
