House Members Call for SLED Investigation of SCE&G’s Involvement in V.C. Summer Failure
Members of the Public Set to Testify on Abandonment Impact Tomorrow
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)- In a letter to SLED Chief Mark Keel, House Speaker Jay Lucas and Representatives Peter McCoy Jr. and Russell Ott requested that SLED investigate SCANA and it’s subsidiary SCE&G for potential criminality. The request comes after SCANA executives testified before the House Utility Ratepayer Committee recently.
In the letter, leaders wrote: “During the course of SCANA’s testimony before the committee and through the examination of thousands of pages of documents, it has become our belief that the proximate cause of the V.C. Summer collapse is a direct result of misrepresentation by SCANA and SCE&G. We also believe criminal fraud through the concealment of material information is also a plausible cause for the project’s disastrous collapse.”
The House members are asking SLED to began the investigation immediately, saying the issue is of utmost importance to them. Additionally, members said both the committee and Speaker’s office will cease communication with SCANA and SCE&G officials. The third House Utility Ratepayer Committee hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, ratepayers are expected to testify about how the collapse has affected them.
