New city-sponsored food cooperative to bring fresh food to North Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – A new food cooperative in North Columbia will provide community members with access to fresh food, city leaders said.

The location on West Beltline Boulevard will fill the hole left by Piggly Wiggly’s departure last year.

Residents have a chance to buy-in to the co-op, by paying a one time fee of $150. The cooperative model will allow the community to have a self-sustaining asset when the project is completed. While ownership is encouraged, anyone can shop at the store.

A Kick-Off Membership Drive will be held Friday, October 20 at Drew Wellness Center from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
