Father Accused of Causing Permanent Brain Damage in Infant Daughter

Lexington, DC (WOLO) —A Columbia man is behind bars after officials accuse him of abusing his infant child causing permanent brain damage.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by ABC Columbia News, 31 year old Robert Ray has been charged with abuse to inflict bodily injury upon a child. Authorities say Ray initially told Deputies his 8 month old daughter fell off a swing and landed on her head. Medical professionals however say the injuries are not consistent with that type of fall, and instead were more in line with injuries associated with abuse.

According to Sheriff jay Koon, the infant suffered permanent damage to the right side of her brain, in addition to injuries to her leg, and face.

In a statement released by Koon. he said ” An injured child is one of the most difficult things we see in law enforcement and our detectives worked hard to find answers in this case. ”

Ray is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
