Man Killed in Deputy-Involved Shooting Identified

Lexington, SC (WOLO) —  SLED is investigating after officials say a man was shot and killed by a Lexington County deputy Thursday night.
Investigators say the deputy tried to pull Justin Adkins, 44, of Saint Matthews over on Shumpert Rd. around 10pm.
According to deputies Adkins did not stop and started a chase which ended on Mimosa Dr. near Fish Hatchery Rd. when deputies deployed a spike strip.
At that point, Sheriff Jay Koon, says Adkins presented a handgun and was shot by a deputy.
Sheriff Koon says that deputy is now on paid leave while SLED investigates the incident.
