Irmo’s Detrek Browning named PBC Player of the Week for fourth time

FLORENCE, SC – For the second week in a row and the fourth time this season, Francis Marion University senior guard Detrek Browning has been named the Peach Belt Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week, this time for the week of Jan. 15-21.

Browning, a 6-0 native of Columbia, averaged 30.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.3 steals in three games last week.  He shot 53.3 percent from the floor, including 10-of-25 three-point shots, and was 17-of-19 at the foul line (one was an intentional miss).  He played 121 of a possible 130 minutes during the three contests.

He began the week with a 23-point performance on the road at Columbus State University.  Browning scored a school-record 41 points in a double-overtime 106-104 win at Augusta University, including making three free throws with less than a second left.  He ended the week with 27 points against Flagler College.

During the week, Browning became only the third PBC men’s player to surpass 2000 career points – he currently stands at 2,013.

Browning leads the Peach Belt and is fifth in Division II in scoring at 24.6 points per game.

He already owns the FMU career marks for points scored, field goals made (710) and attempted (1,441), three-pointers attempted (631), and minutes played (3,553).  He has tied the record for three-pointers made (249) in a career and is second on both the program’s all-time lists for assists (371) and steals (210).

The Patriot men (10-6 overall, 5-6 in PBC play) will play host to conference-leading and local-rival UNC Pembroke on Wednesday(Jan. 24) at 7:30 p.m. in a key Peach Belt Conference showdown.

Altogether, it is the sixth time Browning has earned PBC Player of the Week recognition during his four seasons.
