Free tax preparation services offered in Columbia to qualifying households
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Tax preparers will give their time and knowledge on Saturday, February 3, to help households with incomes of less than $54,000.
The free tax prep event is happening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cecil Tillis Community Center at 2111 Simpkins Ln. in Columbia.
The goal is to prepare at least 100 tax returns, for an estimated savings of $27,000 in tax preparation fees.
If you’re interested in dropping by, you’ll need a photo ID, social security card for each person on the tax return and all tax documents (W2s, 1099s, etc.).
SC Thrive will also be on site to expedite the process for those taxpayers who want to bring a copy of last year’s tax return.
The Cooperative Ministry has partnered with United Way of the Midlands to offer these free, in-person tax assistance sessions at locations in eight Midlands counties.
If you’re not able to make it to the event February 3, you can still file for free from home using United Way’s MyFreeTaxes website, where you can upload your W2’s from any smartphone or computer. Free phone and email support are available through the process.
