Man Accused of Neglecting Elderly Mother Causing Death

Seneca, SC (WOLO) — If convicted, one a man could face up to 30 years in Prison after police say he left his elderly mother for dead after she fell inside a Seneca home.

92 year old Alma Gaines reportedly fell inside the home back on December 15th, but investigators say her son, 57 year old Mack Gaines, was aware of the spill, and left her on the floor of the home with no food, water, or medical attention for three days.

According to an arrest warrant,  by the time Gaines was found by Emergency Medical Services December 18th,  she was unconscious, partially unclothed from the waist down and covered in human waste.

Investigators say Gaines died a little more than a month after she was being treated in hospice care.

Mack Gaines is charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in death.

Gaines Attorney,  Fletcher Smith Jr. told the Associated Press he would not comment on the alleged incident he says  is still being investigated.
