Lugoff-Elgin’s Pressley Anne Wells joins Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University women’s volleyball coach Lauren Baufield has announced that 5-2 libero and defensive specialist Pressley Anne Wells of Lugoff, S.C., will join the Patriot program this fall.

Wells is a senior at Lugoff-Elgin High School, where she played under the direction of coach Kathryn Ham.  This past fall, she registered 255 digs and served 58 aces, averaged 2.9 digs per set, and posted a reception percentage of .923.

She earned All-Region recognition in 2016 while helping the Demons to a region title, and was named her team’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2015. She is a member of her school’s National Honor Society.

Wells also played with the SC Midlands club program.

“PA is a local product that has a tremendous work ethic that will help her be a force to reckon in with the back row,” Baufield said.  “She is dynamic and quick in the things she can do on the volleyball court.  She is an extremely high character player that takes great pride in being a positive role model for her team and family and will continue to do so for FMU.”

The Patriots previously announced the signing of 6-2 middle blocker Iyanla (E-yawn-lah) Thigpen of Tinley Park, Ill., to a national letter of intent during the 2017 early signing period.

FMU loses only two seniors off this past season’s very young squad that posted a 9-18 record.
