22 More Flu Related Deaths in SC

Columbia, SC (WOLO) — The Department of Health and Environmental Control has released startling new numbers that indicate the influenza virus is showing no sign of slowing. In fact, State health officials say it’s gotten worse.

DHEC says 22 people died from the flu this week alone, down from the more than 40 people who died from the virus last week. Overall, more than 18 thousand people have tested positive for the virus statewide from February 4th to February 10th.

Health officials say more than 100 thousand people have fallen ill from the sickness since flu season began back in October. As of Thursday, February 15th, officials say a total 128 others have died from the flu in that same time period.
