McMaster Names Condon Santee-Cooper Chairman
Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–Today Gov. Henry McMaster named Charleston Attorney Charlie Condon as the new chairman of Santee Cooper’s Board of Directors.
Condon fills the position left vacant by former chairman Leighton Lord.
Lord resigned from the post back in December after Gov. McMaster called for his resignation in the wake of the abandonment of the construction of two nuclear reactors at the VC Summer nuclear facility.
Santee Cooper and SCE&G spent billions on the project, the abandonment resulted in more than 6,000 people losing their jobs.
“With his commitment to the rule of law and his proven dedication to serving the people of South Carolina above all else, I’m confident that Mr. Condon’s leadership will usher in a new era of accountability at Santee Cooper that South Carolinians deserve,” said Gov. Henry McMaster.
“I appreciate Governor McMaster asking me to accept this important challenge,” Mr. Condon said. “As the future and mission of Santee Cooper is debated, my goal is to provide transparent and accountable leadership of the board, with the interests of ratepayers and customers my number one priority.”
