Cell phone emergency alert system tested nation wide for the first time today

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) – The ‘Wireless Emergency Alert’ system by the Federal Emergency Management Agency was tested for the first time on Wednesday by sending a “Presidential Alert” message to cell phone users.

The message will be used to issue warning about a crisis such as a terror attack or disaster. The message is written and sent by FEMA officials, not the president.
