South Carolina Governor Debates set for October

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ South Carolina voters are getting two final opportunities to see the candidates vying for governor faceoff in debates.

Two debates have been scheduled between Gov. Henry McMaster and his Democratic challenger, state Rep. James Smith.

The first debate is Oct. 17 at the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center in Florence. A second debate has been scheduled for Oct. 25 at Greenville Technical College.

A lieutenant governor matchup is planned between Republican business owner Pamela Evette and Democratic state Rep. Mandy Powers Norrell at the South Carolina ETV studios in Columbia. This is the first time South Carolina’s governor and lieutenant governor candidates are running on a ticket.

The debate series is sponsored by South Carolina ETV and The Post and Courier of Charleston. The general election is November
