Cost of Lexington curbside pick up set to jump

Lexington, SC (WOLO) — A contract for Lexington’s curbside pick up is about to expire and County officials say resident who live in unincorporated parts of the County, who subscribe to curbside pick up may soon see a difference in their bill within the next month.

County officials say the rate customers have now has been in effect since 2009 without any increases, while the amount of money they say it costs them to remove trash, in addition to equipment costs, employee salaries, fuel and insurance has been going up dramatically.

Service for residents in District 1 will now be provided by Capital Waste Services. Waste will be collected every week, while recycling will be collected every other week. Customers curbside collection bills are expected to go from $15.95 to $26.45 a month.  Back door collection rates are estimated to go from $30.45 to $40.45 a month. Services for residents who live in District 5 will now be provided by Tyler’s Sanitation of Columbia. Service for this area will be divided into two parts, Urban and Rural Service Areas. Urban areas will have collection once a week and recycling collection every other week.
