Deputies: Sumter mother charged after newborn tests positive for marijuana

Sumter Co., S.C. (WOLO) — Sumter Co. deputies have charged a woman after they say she gave birth to a baby who tested positive for marijuana.

Investigators say Heather Barrett, 28, gave birth to the child on February 7th at Prisma Health Toumey Hospital.
She is charged with child neglect.

Deputies say Barrett also tested positive for marijuana during a drug screening.
