South Carolina sheriff’s deputy arrested, fired
FLORENCE, S.C. (AP/WOLO) — A sheriff’s deputy in South Carolina has been arrested on charges of misconduct in office and assault and battery.
News outlets reported that Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone fired 35-year-old Deputy Brian Thomas Proffitt of Effingham after his arrest Wednesday.
Investigators say Proffitt is accused of deliberately leaving information out of an incident report around Feb. 1 that might have implicated him in an alleged assault.
Investigators say Proffitt committed an assault on a suspect during an arrest. Proffitt has been on administrative leave during the investigation.
The sheriff did not provide details on the charges.
According to Florence County Detention Center officials, Proffitt posted a $5,000 bond on Wednesday.
