Duo accused of attempted murder, armed robbery arrested

West Columbia PD search for duo, same suspect also wanted in Richland in separate incidents

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Richland County deputies say two people have been arrested after both of them are accused of attempted murder.

Authorities say Robert Raines, 29, and Kerrie Spires, 23, are facing charges of attempted murder, armed robbery and additional felony charges.

West Columbia Police say on May 28, Spires met with the victim at the Hampton Inn on Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia where police say she planned the  robbery along with Raines.

During the incident, officials say Raines fired his handgun at the victim, and stole money before he ran from the area.

Authorities say, Raines also has several active warrants with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

According to RCSD, Raines is wanted for second-degree burglary, grand larceny and failure to stop for police after officials say he burglarized several storage units on May 18th.

Officials say when they attempted to stop him, he fled and almost injured several people in the area before crashing his car into a tree and ran.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says they believe Raines was on a crime spree.

Both are being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
