South Carolina remembers the impact of Hurricane Hugo on its anniversary

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– 31 years ago today, Hurricane Hugo landed in South Carolina, destroying parts of the state.

Considered one of the worst hurricanes to hit the state in the modern era, the category four hurricane brought 135 mph winds to Charleston and 90 mph winds here in Columbia.

13 people lost their lives in Hurricane Hugo.
