Richland Co. Coroner identifies child killed in weekend vehicle collision

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified a child killed in a two vehicle collision on North Springs Road and North Trace Road Saturday. Coroner Gary Watts says 11-year-old Richard Johnson III died from blunt force injuries to his upper body at a local hospital.

According to investigators, the collision happened just before 1 a.m., and Johnson was wearing a seat belt. Authorities say two other passengers of the same vehicle were taken to a local hospital.

Highway Patrol and the Coroner’s Office are investigating.
