In a COVID-ravaged season, Kentucky and South Carolina are abnormalities

When South Carolina and Kentucky kick off Saturday night in the Bluegrass State, a milestone of sorts will be set.

The Gamecocks and the Wildcats will be the only teams in the SEC playing their 10th game of the season this weekend; every other team in the conference has had at least one game postponed to Dec. 12 or 19 because of COVID-19 positive tests or contact tracing.

“I didn’t think we’d make it this far to be honest,” said USC Interim Head Coach Mike Bobo Tuesday. “It’s a credit to the SEC and everyone being organized.”

While both teams have dealt with individual COVID-19 issues on their respective roster, neither has dealt with major outbreaks, causing practice cancellations or game postponements.

“I think you get to this point and you’re like, ‘We’re gonna keep playing.'”

As of week 13 of the college football slate, 91 of the 527 scheduled games were either postponed or canceled because of the Coronavirus. Week 12 saw 18 games postponed or canceled, the most in a single week this season. Game postponements have also been on the rise since week 8, when just one was affected.

In total, 17.3-percent of games this season have been postponed or canceled.
