RCSD announces two arrests in connection with deadly shooting last week

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, two individuals have been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred last Tuesday. Deputies say 22-year-old Demarqus Rashaad Murray was arrested Monday afternoon at the Colony Apartments around 12:45 p.m. and is charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Authorities say Murray is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Deputies also say a 16-year-old, whose name is not being released due to her age, turned herself in to authorities on December 2. Officials say she faces the same charges as Murray and is being housed at the Department of Juvenile Justice.

The arrests stem from a December 1 incident at the 100 block of Thrush Street in Hopkins, where deputies found a man being in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Authorities say the man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
