AP: Officials: Inmates locked up SC guard, but none escaped
MCCORMICK, S.C. (AP)– South Carolina officials say state inmates at a high-security prison locked a guard into a cell Sunday night. The South Carolina Department of Corrections tweeted that five inmates were caught near an interior prison yard fence at McCormick Correctional Institution Sunday evening. The department says that no one escaped. The agency adds that no staff suffered injuries and two inmates were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The prison’s police department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are investigating. The prison is about 80 miles west of Columbia and houses more than 800 people.
