Newberry grad Shai Werts transfers to ACC school

Newberry High grad Shai Werts is transferring from Georgia Southern.

Werts, an all-conference QB, will sign with Louisville after he announced his plans to transfer on New Year’s Eve. According to reports, Werts chose Louisville over Florida State, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Hawaii and others.

He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining and plans to make the transition to wide receivers, while also competing for time on special teams returning punts and kickoffs.

Werts finished his time at Georgia Southern with 3,083 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns, adding over 37-hundred passing yards and 34 passing touchdowns.

At Newberry High, Werts totaled more than 6,000 yards and 73 touchdowns.
