Gamecock football on track for full spring practice
The Gamecock football schedule this spring will look a little different than normal.
With spring practices normally starting in late February, new South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer is aiming for a late March start. During a press conference with reporters on Tuesday, Beamer said the gamecocks are on track to begin spring practices on March 20th with the annual Garnet and Black Game on April 24.
“I thought it was important for us to maximize the time in the weight room with Coach Day before spring practice and the time offensive, defensive and special teams staffs have to implement their systems and figure out what our plan of attack is going forward,” Beamer said. “That gives us roughly nine weeks to get stuff done in the weight room and get organized before we hit the practice field in March.”
Last year’s spring practices were shortened due to COVID-19, but so far Beamer says the gamecocks are scheduled to have a full slate of practices.
USC began its first offseason program under Beamer Tuesday.
