Man arrested after crashing car into youth baseball field in Prosperity

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Officers with the Prosperity Police Department say they arrested a man after he crashed his vehicle into a Dixie Youth baseball field on Tuesday night. Authorities say they tried to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of N Main Street and Brown Street when 22-year-old Omarious Todman sped up, attempting to evade the police. Officials say he turned onto Shiloh Road where he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the fence by the press box at the baseball field.

Police say Todman fled the scene on foot and was pursued by the responding officer. According to investigators, the officer returned to the car and conducted a search where he found marijuana, a digital scale and an open beer can. Police say they also found a cell phone in the vehicle with a contact listed as a parole officer. Authorities say they called the number to obtain more information about the suspect.

The following day, deputies with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office say they received calls from citizens saying they saw the suspect in the vicinity of Colony Church Road and Fire Tower Road. Deputies say they went to the area and arrested Todman without incident.

Authorities say Todman was taken to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where he was charged with reckless driving, failure to stop for blue lights, driving under suspension, possession of drug paraphernalia, hit and run accident with property damage, open container (alcohol), simple possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.
