Clemson loses starting linebacker to transfer portal

CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson Tigers have become accustomed to losing impact players on defense to the NFL Draft every season. Today, they lost a key member of the defense to the transfer portal.

Redshirt sophomore linebacker Mike Jones Jr. has officially put his name into the transfer portal and intends to finish his career at another program.

Jones totaled 30 tackles (four for loss), four pass breakups, two interceptions, and a forced fumble in 10 games (seven starts) for Clemson last season. He was named a second-team All-ACC member by PFF.

For his career, he recorded 47 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles.

The Tigers were set to return all 11 of their starters on defense next season, now it appears they’ll have to pull from their depth to fill the hole Jones leaves behind in the linebacker group.
