CPD: Pedestrian killed after being struck on SC 277 Sunday

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The Columbia Police Department says a man has died after he was struck by a vehicle while walking along SC 277 Sunday evening. Around 7:30 p.m., police say they were dispatched to SC 277 between Farrow Road and Bull Street.

Authorities say a pedestrian was walking illegally in the middle of the southbound lane on SC 277 when he was struck, causing his fatal injuries. Investigators say the first two drivers were able to swerve out of the pedestrian’s way, but the third did not see him until he was already struck.

Officials say one of the drivers rendered aid to the pedestrian until EMS arrived. CPD says the Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
