LCSD investigating death of inmate at Lexington County Detention Center

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The Lexington County Sheriff Department says they are investigating the death of an inmate who was found unresponsive in a cell Monday morning. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the inmate as 36-year-old Leon Russell Black.

Deputies say Black was found unresponsive on his bunk in a cell.

Officials say Black was arrested on February 19 for a state probation violation.

According to deputies, the investigation of Black’s death is being conducted by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
