Gamecocks drop sixth straight with Saturday loss to Vanderbilt
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s Jack Leiter threw a complete-game no-hitter, striking out 16 as the Commodores defeated the University of South Carolina baseball team, 5-0, Saturday morning (March 20) at Hawkins Field.
Leiter walked the opening batter of the game, Braylen Wimmer, but then retired the next 27 batters. Vanderbilt had a pair of two-run home runs from Tate Kolwyck and a sacrifice fly from Enrique Bradfield Jr. in the eighth inning for its five runs.
- Carolina was no-hit for the first time since Feb. 24, 1990 against Northwestern.
- Jordan now has 38 strikeouts in 23 innings of work after his nine on Saturday.
- Leiter moved to 5-0 on the year for Vanderbilt, joining Kumar Rocker, Friday’s starter, with a 5-0 mark.
Carolina and Vanderbilt wrap up the three-game series on Sunday afternoon (March 21) with a 1 p.m. CT (2 p.m. ET) first pitch. The game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
