Consumer News: Gas prices take slight dip, getting vaccinated could get you a free donut and more!

CNN– Some good news for those filling up at the pump, gas prices have actually fallen. Right now, drivers in the Midlands are paying an average of $2.59 a gallon. That’s down nearly two cents in the past week, but about 18 cents higher than a month ago, according to GasBuddy. The cheapest gas in Columbia is priced at $2.35 a gallon, while the most expensive is $2.80. The national average has also fallen to $2.86 cents a gallon.

One thing that’s not slowing down is air travel. The Transportation Security Administration says it screened more than 1.5 million people on Sunday, beating the daily record set only two days before. It was also the 11th straight day that more than one million people were screened. Experts, however, are still warning against travel as new variants of the coronavirus continue to spread.

Royal Caribbean is marking its 2021 return with cruises from the Bahamas set to depart in June. They’re available only to adults who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and those under age 18 who have tested negative for the virus. The cruise line says additional health and safety measures will be announced later. The cruise industry was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic last year, as several ships across the world became sources of major COVID-19 outbreaks. The CDC has not said when cruises can resume in the United States.

If you need another reason to get vaccinated, beside being able to travel, Krispy Kreme is giving us one too.
