Blythewood HS senior receives college scholarship for e-sports
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– A Midlands high school student has earned a college scholarship for playing video games. On Thursday, Blythewood High School announced Jacob Gavel received a scholarship to play e-sports at Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri.
Gavel, who plays under the name “Spacio,” will be on the school’s Rainbow Six Seige Team and represent the college in tournaments.
Gavel is excited to be able to attend college, while growing his passion for video games. “I am really excited about this opportunity because Rainbow Six Siege means a lot to me and to be able to have it be a part of my life is incredible,” Gavel stated.
Gavel said he hopes to study computer information systems and get a job in the cybersecurity industry after he graduates college.
