Fort Jackson conducting prescribed burn Monday

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Officials with Fort Jackson say they are conducting a prescribed burn of nearly 61 acres today. The controlled burn of land within the fort was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and last until 1 p.m.

Fort Jackson officials advise that while the prescribed burn is within the interior of the post, smoke may drift into nearby areas.

According to authorities, prescribed burns are used to reduce fuel buildup in order to reduce the likelihood of larger fires.
