“Addiction to prescription medications continues to be on a dangerous rise and our officers are investigating overdose incidents at alarming numbers”, Chief Terrence Green said. “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is the perfect opportunity to take a few minutes to clean your medicine cabinet to ensure that these dangerous drugs are disposed of safely and are kept out of the hands of those who would abuse them.”

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office will also participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.  You can take the prescription drugs to the sheriff’s office at 113 Gregg Street in Bishopville.

From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office will be available at 550 Wilson Road for you to drop off any unused prescription medications.

During this same time, the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office says you make a drop off at the Piggly Wiggly on Old Edisto Drive, where the TriCounty Commission on Alcohol and Drugs will be present with Narcan and bags for prescription drugs. OSCO says you can also go to IGA on Branchdale Highway in Eutawville or the Regional Medical Center on St. Matthews Road in Orangeburg.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson also released a statement encouraging South Carolinians to participate in Saturday’s prescription drug take back.

“The message is clear and simple: take back and dispose,” Attorney General Wilson said. “There’s no question that South Carolina has an opioid crisis and this is a way anyone with unused opioids can fight that. We know that most people who are prescribed opioids don’t use all of them. We also know that most people who start using heroin did so after first becoming addicted to prescription opioids.”

Prisma Health Richland Hospital will be accepting unused prescriptions at a collection station at their 9 Medical Park main entrance.

There are also multiple drop off locations available across the Midlands. You can visit the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control’s website to find a site near you.
