Prisma Health Breast Center in Sumter using new, less invasive biopsy system

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The Prisma Health Breast Center in Sumter is now using a new biopsy system that is both more efficient for staff and less invasive for patients. The Brevara Breast Biopsy System is used for 3D stereotactic breast biopsies, and is considered a breakthough in screening.

“Our goal in mammography and breast imaging is to carefully screen and work up breast abnormalities affecting our patients. Then we can guide the patient and their provider to determine the best biopsy technique available that will help direct the course of treatment,” said Dr. Gilbert “Bert” Parker, diagnostic radiologist. “Implementation of this advanced technology helps our team conduct these procedures quicker and with more accuracy than ever before.”

The Brevara system allows radiologists to x-ray samples immediately, and in the same room as the patient. Prisma officials say they are the only provider within 60 miles of offer this technology.
