DHEC urges parents to keep an eye on their kids and keep them safe in the water this summer
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control says an average 453 children under the age of five drown in the U.S. each year. That’s why they are giving parents safety tips to keep your child safe while having fun in the water this summer. The tips come from Safe Kids Worldwide.
First, supervise your child while they are in the water, and don’t let them swim alone if possible. Next, choose a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket that is right for your child’s weight and water activity. Always enter the water feet first, stay away from pool drains and do not play breath-holding games with children under the age of 15.
