Gilbert baseball wins 3A state championship over West Oak

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — For the fifth time, the Gilbert baseball team is bringing home a state championship trophy. The Indians beat West Oak 12-3 in game three of the SCHSL 3A state championship to claim the hardware.

They had the chance to clinch the series Thursday night at West Oak after winning game one at home, but had to wait until Saturday’s game three at USC Upstate to celebrate a title.

That wait was also extended even further after rain in the area delayed the game nearly two hours before it could be finished.
