Six months after the riot, the Capitol Police Department says it has better communication and training
CNN– The Capitol Police Department says it’s made progress in the last six months since the January 6 riot.
The department says it is working with congressional employee assistance programs to help address the psychological trauma some of its officers have suffered. The department is also increasing its staffing and has purchased more helmets, shields and non-lethal weapons.
Authorities say officers are now training with the National Guard, and the department has a new Critical Incident Response Plan to coordinate with local, state and federal law enforcement. Intelligence officials have also increased the amount of information they share within the department and with other agencies.
