Clemson two-sport commit Bubba Chandler drafted by Pirates
CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson’s concerns in the quarterback room might have become more troubling.
Clemson two-sport signee Bubba Chandler was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the first pick of the third round (72nd overall) of the 2021 MLB Draft Monday afternoon.
Chandler is one of the prized recruits for the Clemson baseball team, and was expected to serve as a backup quarterback for D.J. Uiagalelei on the football team this fall.
Based on his interview with MLB.com after being drafted, it sounds as if Chandler will be forgoing his scholarship and beginning his pro baseball career.
“Everything works out for a reason, and I’m glad to be a Pittsburgh Pirate,” Chandler said.
The slot value for the 72nd overall pick is just over $870,ooo.
