DHEC: 3,540 new cases of COVID-19, 45 additional deaths reported in latest update

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental control released the state’s latest coronavirus data as of Sunday.

DHEC reports 3,124 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 416 probable cases for a total of 3,540 total cases reported. DHEC also reports 36 new confirmed deaths and nine probable deaths due to COVID-19 for a total of 45 virus related deaths. Since the beginning of the pandemic, DHEC says there have been 695,489 cases of COVID-19 and 10,314 virus related deaths in the Palmetto State.

DHEC says they received 32,951 molecular test results from the latest testing period, which yielded a percent positive rate of 12.7%.

According to the department, there have been a total of 4,214,936 coronavirus vaccine doses administered to South Carolinians so far. The department says 55.3% of eligible South Carolina residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 46.6% of eligible residents are fully vaccinated.

DHEC also released their coronavirus data for this weekend. On Sunday, DHEC reports 5,011 cases of COVID-19 (3,963 confirmed and 1,048 probable) and 27 deaths (14 confirmed and 13 probable). On Saturday, DHEC reports there were 4,602 cases (3,591 confirmed and 1,011 probable) and 30 deaths (25 confirmed and five probable).
