Consumer News: Major employers looking to hire seasonal workers, a subscription service for Taco Bell and more!
CNN– Amazon is joining a growing list of retailers offering education benefits to its employees. The online retailer is now offering to cover 100% of the cost of tuition, as it battles for workers in a tight U.S. labor market. As Jen Sullivan tells us, it’s a trend that’s catching on.
If you’re looking to pick up some extra pay during the holiday season, several major employers are looking for seasonal workers. Among the companies posting tens of thousands of positions are the U.S. Postal Service, Kohl’s and Michael’s. These retailers say they expect strong holiday sales and need people. The consulting firm KPMG is predicting a 7% hike in consumer purchases, compared to 2020. Those findings are based on a recent survey from more than 100 retail executives.
Taco Bell is now testing a subscription service for tacos. Here’s how it works: Customers pay $5-10 a month for what’s called a ‘Taco Lover’s Pass.’ That lets them get one of a variety of tacos every day for 30 days. Taco Bell is trying out the subscription service at about 20 of its Tucson, Arizona restaurants. No word when it might roll out for the rest of the country.
