DHEC: 799 new cases of COVID-19, 21 additional deaths in SC

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control released the state’s latest coronavirus data as of Saturday.

DHEC reports 567 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 232 probable cases, for a total of 799 new cases in South Carolina. DHEC also reports 18 new confirmed deaths and three probable deaths due to COVID-19, for a total of 21 virus related deaths in the state. Since the beginning of the pandemic, DHEC says there have been 924,957 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases and 14,314 virus related deaths reported in the Palmetto State.

DHEC says it received 16,260 molecular test results from the latest testing period, which produced a percent positive rate of 4.8%.

According to the department, 58.6% of eligible South Carolina residents ages 5 and up have received at least one coronavirus vaccine dose, and 50.5% of eligible residents are fully vaccinated.
