Pedestrian fatally hit by truck on I-77 in Fairfield has been identified
FAIRFIELD CO., S.C. (WOLO) – The Fairfield County Coroner’s Office has identified the pedestrian killed in a collision Tuesday.
The coroner says Chavis Burton, 70, of Huntersville, North Carolina, was trying to cross the road on the I-77 south exit ramp at mile marker 34 after 5:30 a.m.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Burton was then fatally hit by a 2020 Mack truck.
Troopers say the truck driver wore a seatbelt and wasn’t injured.
The coroner says an autopsy is scheduled this Friday in Newberry.
The Coroner’s Office and Highway Patrol are still investigating.
