Senator Graham says Trump made a mistake when referring to Putin as a “genius”
CNN– Senator Lindsey Graham is trying to soften words former President Donald Trump has doubled down on. Several days ago, Trump called Vladimir Putin a “genius” and referred to him as “savvy” during a radio interview. Since then, Trump went on to call Putin “smart” during a speech Saturday.
Trump said, “The problem is not that Putin is smart. The problem is that our leaders are dumb.”
When asked about Trump’s comments Wednesday, Graham said he believes his political ally misspoke.
Trump said he believes Putin made his decision after watching the U.S. withdraw from Afghanistan and that it wouldn’t have happened if he was president.
