SCEMD: 2.2 magnitude earthquake recorded near Elgin

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– According to officials with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, the United States Geological Survey reported a 2.2 magnitude earthquake near Elgin. Officials say the earthquake occurred at 11:09 a.m. Wednesday four miles east/southeast of Elgin.

Officials say this is the 20th tremor recorded in the area since December 27, 2021.
