Gamecocks losing freshman guard to transfer
Just one day after celebrating a National Championship during a parade in Columbia Wednesday, one member of the Gamecocks is leaving the program.
Freshman Saniya Rivers announced her decision to transfer Thursday afternoon on social media post.
“I will be entering my name into the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining to further pursue my academic and athletic career goals,” Rivers said Thursday.
Rivers played in 27 games for the Gamecocks this season, averaging just over two points per game. She scored a career-high eight points against Alabama back on February 3.
The number three overall recruit in the 2021 class, Rivers was also the Gatorade National Player of the Year coming out of high school.
